George Rickey actively participated in art education, new art exploration and art commentary. He wrote aesthetic, scholarly and critical commentary of the art world as it was happening around him, and was also the subject of much writing by others. Much of his writing is deeply insightful and one work became a landmark publication on a critical art genre:
